Experts advise on potassium iodide use: no protection against "dirty bombs"

Article Abstract:

Potassium iodide tablets will not protect people from the adverse effects of a so-called "dirty" bomb. These bombs use regular explosives to disperse radioactive material. However, they do not produce radioactive iodine. Potassium iodide tablets only protect against exposure to radioactive iodine, not the gamma radiation produced by a dirty bomb.
