Expression of the placental cytokines tumor necrosis factor alpha, interleukin 1beta, and interleukin 10 is increased in preeclampsia

Placentas from women with preeclampsia contain increased levels of chemicals involved in inflammation. These naturally occurring chemicals in the body could therefore play a role in preeclampsia, a complication of pregnancy characterized by hypertension and kidney disease.

Neonatal sepsis and death caused by resistant Escherichia coli: possible consequences of extended maternal ampicillin administration

Intrauterine endotoxin infusion in rat pregnancy induces preterm delivery and increases placental prostaglandin F(sub 2 alpha) metabolite

Article Abstract:

Bacterial endotoxins can cause premature birth and low birth weight, according to a study of pregnant rats. Endotoxins are chemicals produced by bacteria that may activate prostaglandin synthesis, which would cause the uterus to begin contracting.
