Eye allergies: avoiding the discomfort, soothing the irritation

Article Abstract:

Spring is the time for seasonal allergies to reach their peak. Plant pollens and molds cause eye itching and burning. The human body overreacts defensively by releasing an antibody immunoglobulin E. It stimulates immune cells in the eye's mucous lining and airways with inflammatory ingredients. Avoiding the outdoors and using air conditioning during pollen season are ways to keep allergic reactions to a minimum. One of the newer prescription antihistamine medications is Patanol (olopatadine).
