Face to face

Article Abstract:

A general practitioner and his practice nurse describe the particular qualities possessed by the doctor due to his unusual background. Andy Watts began his medical career as a nurse. He felt that he would have more opportunity to maintain contact with patients and influence community nursing if he became a doctor. The nurse feels that Watts is more able than many general practitioners to put patients at their ease, due to his empathetic approach, and that he is more likely to act on nurses' suggestions. The two health care workers discuss primary care groups.

Face to face

Article Abstract:

Having direct contact with clients is very satisfying, according to Pat Serafinas, who is retired but still works as a bank health visitor. She is not really interested in management, and was not particularly ambitious when she was working as a nurse. Health visiting is very satisfying, according to fellow health visitor Sandra Fitzpatrick. She feels that she has benefited greatly from working with Serafinas, who has a great deal of experience and helps her to put stressful situations into perspective.
