Face to face

Article Abstract:

Former heroin addict Lee Calladine had a very negative opinion of health care professionals and drug rehabilitation schemes before he went on a detoxification programme in South Yorkshire, under the care of nurse Malcolm Carr. Calladine admitted heroin had broken his spirit and make him into a compulsive cheat and liar. Carr won his confidence by allowing him to talk about things which interested him. Once his confidence had been gained, Calladine willingly underwent the five-day programme and is pleased to be classed as recovering from addiction.

Face to face

Article Abstract:

Being featured in a UK television programme about student nurses has led to a strong friendship between Katie Perkins and Joanne Banks. Both women enjoyed the process of being filmed at some of the most stressful times in their nursing training. Ordinary people benefitted from seeing the training nurses have to go through, according to Perkins, who has taken up psychiatric nursing. Banks decided on a career in an accident and emergency unit in Newcastle.
