Article Abstract:

Debbie Hodgson and Dawn Cuzner are two ward sisters on an acute medical ward who successfully share one job. According to Cuzner, the burden of responsibility is shared and there is immense mutual support. Both nurses feel able to contact one another at home and have a similar attitude to their role. An important part of job sharing is mutual trust.

Article Abstract:

Simon Hughes, junior doctor, and Louise Summerton, nurse practitioner, from Crawley Hospital, West Sussex, UK, believe that the nurse practitioner system there works well. Nurse practitioners are assigned to the doctors' team, rather than to wards, and their role is to reduce the hours worked by doctors, support doctors in various tasks, and provide a link between doctors and ward staff.
