Falling through the holes

Article Abstract:

Increased resources rather than legislative changes are necessary to ensure adequate community care of mentally-ill clients. Friern and Barnet, London, England psychiatric services and North Manchester Health Authority have demonstrated the social benefits of well-resourced professional services. Community compulsory treatment for those who refuse medication is misguided. Short-stay residential units would be more appropriate for any necessary compulsory treatment.

Joint initiative

Article Abstract:

It is becoming increasingly common for nursing staff to have some form of contact with drug abuse, and there have even been cases of drugs being smuggled into hospitals. This is a particular problem in mental health units, especially as more and more patients are diagnosed as having both a mental illness and a drug abuse problem. It is now vital that specialist staff from drug services work more closely with others in the mental health field to tackle this problem.

Let's tell it as it is

Article Abstract:

Nursing research is in danger of suffering from the 'perfect patient' syndrome, with the emphasis on reaching a perfect conclusion, heedless of how it is arrived at. Some managers are now beginning to realise that the quality of clinical nursing cannot be improved by just examining the results, but that the process should include all aspects of human life.
