One step beyond

Article Abstract:

Enrolled nurses (EN) describe personal and professional achievements from the 'Nursing Times' open learning conversion course. A desire to up-grade qualifications prompted participation. Personal benefits from the course included increased assertiveness, greater confidence and improved study skills. Nursing practice improved with the implementation of new ideas. Most felt motivated to continue their development through distance learning.

The UK Dept of Health is to draw up guidelines on how to handle patients' money, according to health minister Tim Yeo, speaking at the recent 'A question of balance: patients' money in the NHS' conference, London, UK. The conference was held by NAHAT, Age Concern, The Disabled Living Foundation, Mencap, and MIND. The performance of health authorities and trusts is currently being monitored by the Dept of Health.

New age nursing

Article Abstract:

A 1992 conference held by the British Holistic Medical Assn looked at nursing developments in holistic medicine. The conference focused on reintroducing the feminine principle into traditional medicine, which needs to embrace some fundamental human values such as trust and love. Nursing has always used the senses and hands as part of the healing process and has integrated feminine values into the practice.
