Fetal ascites associated with ABO incompatibility: case report and review of the literature

Article Abstract:

ABO incompatibility may lead to severe anemia in the fetus, especially if mothers have type O blood and have had previous ABO incompatible pregnancies. A 32-year-old woman with type O blood and a previous ABO incompatible pregnancy delivered an infant girl of 35 weeks' gestation. The infant was alert, but had excess fluid which distended the abdomen and an enlarged liver. Abdominal fluid was drained off. The infant was found to have severe ABO incompatibility and anti-B isoimmunization. She received phototherapy and a blood transfusion to correct anemia and went home on the sixth day.

Atopy, the use of condoms, and a history of cesarean delivery: potential predisposing factors for latex sensitization in pregnant women

Article Abstract:

All pregnant women should be asked if they are sensitive to latex. In a study of 333 pregnant women, 3% had an immune response to latex. They were more likely to have used condoms and to have had a previous cesarean section, when they may have been exposed to latex gloves worn by health care personnel.
