Food marketing and childhood obesity--A matter of policy

Article Abstract:

A new Institute of Medicine (IOM) study about Food Marketing to Children and Youth: Threat or Opportunity provides a grueling account of how food marketing affects children's health. In response to threats of lawsuits and legislation, companies are struggling to support health and exercise programs, to announce policies renouncing advertising directed at children under certain ages, and to make their products appear more healthful.

Newborn screening - setting evidence-based policy for protection

Article Abstract:

Newborn screening in the US is mandated and regulated by the states, with little direction or authority at the federal level, but many issues in newborn-screening policy and practice still remains controversial. The disorders recommended by the American College of Medical Genetics (ACMG) task force for inclusion in newborn screening are illustrated.

Semper Fidelis - consumer protection for patients with implanted medical devices

Article Abstract:

The reasons for the recall of the Medtronic Sprint Fidelis, an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) are discussed. The device was found to be faulty and got fractured in many cases.
