Food storage: knowing when to toss or keep shelf goods

Article Abstract:

Tips on buying and storing canned and packaged goods are given. They include checking for expiration dates, keeping foods in a cool area, storing flours and grains in airtight containers, and using up the oldest products first. A guide to storage times for various food items is given.

Food-borne illnesses

Article Abstract:

The incidence of food-borne illnesses is on the upswing due to new sources of contamination, centralized food preparations and increased restaurant dining. For those afflicted, it is important to refrain from antidiarrheal drugs because these prevent bacteria from being excreted.

Food and mood: can what you eat affect your behavior?

Research indicates that diets high in protein or carbohydrates can affect the type and amount of neurotransmitters in the blood. However, these changes are complex and subtle, making it difficult to control mood through nutrition.
