Galanin-1 receptor up-regulation mediates the excess colonic fluid production caused by infection with enteric pathogens

Article Abstract:

Research demonstrates that increased colonic fluid secretion in infectious diarrhea is mediated by enhanced galanin-1 receptor expression by epithelial cells lining the colon. Data further show that receptor activation is caused by Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhimurium, and Shigella flexerii by an up regulation of the GAL1R gene in these bacteria.

Breaking up receptor alliances: the parting of CD3 and CD4

Article Abstract:

Recent advances in the multi-dimensional imaging of T cells and their interactions with the antigen presenting cells have shed fresh light on the process of T-cell activation. This article discusses the use of fluorescent labeling technique combined with the video microscopy to delineate regulation of the immune response.

CD46 is a cellular receptor for group B adenoviruses

Article Abstract:

Results demonstrate that human CD46 serve as receptors for group B adenoviruses and their ectopic expression renders nonhuman cells susceptible to the group B adenoviruses. However, siRNA-mediated knockdown of CD46 and soluble CD46 block the infection of human cell lines and primary human cells.
