Cardiovascular and renal disease in the adolescent guinea pig after chronic placental insufficiency

Article Abstract:

The aim of the study was to obtain initial information on the postnatal consequences of experimental placental insufficiency to inform the design of subsequent more focused and intensive studies of functional outcomes. Chronic placental insufficiency has long-lasting effects on the pathophysiologic condition of the heart, aorta, and kidney, and a tendency for effects in the adrenal of the guinea pig at 8 weeks of age, which is equivalent to human adolescence.

Are alterations in plasma protease concentrations during labor associated with poor obstetric outcomes?

Article Abstract:

The association between abnormal connective tissue remodeling during labor as reflected by plasma concentrations of extracellular matrix remodeling proteolytic enzymes and adverse obstetric outcomes are assessed. Altered plasma concentrations of extracellular matrix remodeling proteolytic enzymes, matrix metalloproteinase 9, and urokinase plasminogen activator are found to be associated with abnormal obstetric outcomes.

Preterm fetal growth restriction is associated with increased parathyroid hormone-related protein expression in the fetal membranes

Article Abstract:

Increased levels of parathyroid hormone-related protein may be involved in fetal growth restriction in premature babies. This protein is produced by the fetus and by many fetal membranes and probably plays a role in normal fetal growth and development.
