Gender differences in risk behaviors among HIV+ persons with an IDU history

Article Abstract:

Women seem more likely than men to report use or non-use of condoms with their primary partners. An analysis of 324 HIV-positive intravenous drug using people in Marseille, France found that women were far more likely than men to shoot up with a partner but less likely to sterilize the needles. Men and women with HIV-negative partner were likely to use condoms (two-thirds of them) but less likely if the partner was HIV-positive. Women seem to protect their partners from HIV more often than themselves.
