Genetic analysis of HIV-1 strains in rural Eastern Cameroon indicates the evolution of second-generation recombinants to circulating recombinant forms

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted emphasizing the power of HIV-1 recombination through the generation of second-generation recombinant forms and the evolution of unique recombinant forms into circulating recombinant form (CRFs). The findings suggest that, in a region where a predominant HIV-1 strain cocirculates among several subtypes, recombination could decrease the proportion of this strain over time, such as CRF02_AG in Cameroon.

Identification of a novel HIV-1 circulating ADG intersubtype recombinant form (CRF19_cpx) in Cuba

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze near complete genomes of 4 epidemiologically unlinked viruses from Cuba, originally characterized as D/A intersubtype recombinants in pol and env segments. The results allowed defining a new circular recombinant form (CRF) (CRF19_cpx), where the 4th analyzed Cuban virus was recombinant between CRF19_cpx and CRF18_cpx.

Identification of 3 phylogenetically related HIV-1 BG intersubtype circulating recombinant forms in Cuba

Article Abstract:

Eight near full-length genomes and 1 gag-pol sequence from epidemiologically unlinked Cuban BG Cuban recombinants are analyzed. Three new BG intersubtype circulating recombinant forms in Cuba derived from a common recombinant ancestor are identified.
