Genotype and phenotype patterns of drug-resistant HIV-1 subtype B' (Thai B) isolated from patients failing antiretroviral therapy in China

Article Abstract:

The genotypic and phenotypic drug resistance patterns of HIV-1 subtype B' (Thai B) variants that are prevalent in China are investigated to rationally design more efficient anti-HIV-1 regimens for future treatment of AIDS patients. The results have shown that a genotypic assay of AZT, ddI, and d4T can predict the phenotypic outcome and the genotype might monitor AZT, ddI, and d4T resistance of HIV-1 subtype B'.

Distribution of CCR2-64I and SDF1-3'A alleles and HIV status in 7 ethnic populations of Cameroon

Article Abstract:

The allelic frequencies of the AIDS-related polymorphisms CCR2-64I, SDF1-3'A, and CCR5-delta32 in 321 volunteers from seven ethnic groups in Cameroon is reported. The findings are consistent with the hypothesis that CCR2-64I alleles might delay HIV disease progression without affecting susceptibility to infection among men.

Polymerase chain reaction-based assay for antibody-mediated neutralization of HIV-1 reveals a population of nonneutralized virus undetected by conventional p24 assay

Article Abstract:

Researchers used the monoclonal antibody 694/98-D to neutralizer 95% of the HIV-1 in CEM-SS cells. The amount of neutralized and non-neutralized virus ws detected using a PCR assay that is more sensitive than ELISA assays.
