Gentle persuasion

Article Abstract:

A community nurse describes the way in which she gradually gained the trust of an isolated, vehemently independent old woman who refused to go into hospital for investigation of her badly swollen, oozing legs. Having persuaded the elderly woman to have her legs regularly washed and dressed, the nurse became friends with her. This led to the elderly woman allowing a hospital doctor to examine her at home and subsequently agreeing to go into hospital.

The ultimate betrayal

Article Abstract:

A nurse tells of the long-term effects of having suffered sexual abuse as a child. She describes the violent relationship between her parents and the way in which her loyalties towards her father led to the development of sexual relations with him. Having been helped to overcome deep depression by a sympathetic general practitioner, she subsequently underwent therapy and now has a different outlook on the world.
