Managing the Fight against Corruption: A Case Study

Article Abstract:

Policy-makers have been beset with problems of corruption, especially in less developed countries. This case study is based on a real occurrence of corruption. It furnishes an approach to the application of tools of analysis to corruption problems, as well as a measurement of the meaning of pragmatic issues of implementation and politics. Policy against corruption should address aspects of severity, especially as to the relative involvement of functions for policy changes and political strategy. Reliable data on corruption is difficult to locate. The case featured here has been studied at Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government. Names involved in the actual case have been changed to Rafia Shabir's outlook on the National Food Organization of Rurritania. Tables of bulk food prices are included, as are illustrations of the organization's functions. Various types of corruption are pinpointed.
