Article Abstract:

The use of pioneering heart surgery on new-born babies suffering from hypoplastic left heart syndrome is a complex and risky practice but allows many children to reach an age where a heart transplant operation can be safely performed. Parents need to be counselled about the risks involved in surgery and the long-term outlook for their child. After-care is carried out in a children's intensive care ward, with special dietary requirements needed in later life.

Article Abstract:

A case study of a 56-year-old man with acromegaly, a condition characterized by progressive enlargement of peripheral areas of the body, is presented. Surgery and radiotherapy have not cured this patient, but his condition remains stable since he has been receiving lanreotide injections.
