Glucose regulation in young adults with very low birth weight

Article Abstract:

Tests on young adults with very low birth weight were performed to determine the association between small size at birth and impaired glucose regulation later in life. Young adults with a very low birth weight were found to have higher indexes of insulin resistance and glucose intolerance and higher blood pressure than those born at term.

Relation of serial changes in childhood body-mass index to impaired glucose tolerance in young adulthood

Article Abstract:

The evaluation of glucose tolerance and plasma insulin concentration in 1492 men and women of 26 to 32 years of age is presented. It is concluded that thinness in infancy or diabetes in young adulthood is associated with impaired glucose tolerance and crossing into higher categories of body-mass index after two years of age.

Trajectories of growth among children who have coronary events as adults

Article Abstract:

Hospital admissions for coronary heart disease and deaths from coronary heart disease among the men and women in the cohort from 1971 to 1998 are identified. The results reveal that on average, adults who had a coronary event were small at birth and thin at two years of age and thereafter put on weight rapidly.
