Grocery stores and restaurants mop up hazards

Article Abstract:

Grocery stores and restaurants have implemented stringent measures to improve occupational health and safety conditions. The move was prompted by a 1993 report by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, which lists the restaurant and the grocery industries, respectively, as the first and second among workplaces in the total number of occupational injuries. Sprains and strains were the most common type of injuries for both groups. Thus, safety and training measures are tailored to the leading causes of these injuries and uniformly require proper training, commitment and a well-designed work environment.

Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) in the workplace requires co-operation from both employers and employees to ensure that the workplace is a healthy and safe environment. Both employees and employers are required to co-operate by the rights and responsibilities that are set for them.
OH&S is the safety procedures in place in every enterprise to ensure both the health and safety of each and every employee.

How to measure your mine safety program

Article Abstract:

Evaluations of mine safety programs involve the target areas of technology and its users, the physical work environment, and organizational climate. Mining companies follow different systems to measure the level of success their safety programs have achieved. BHP Copper, for example, put in place its risk-control program Five Star System in 1994, with 73 outlined gradable standards for its smelting plant. Since then, BHP has put in 25 additional standards applicable to all its mining plants. In addition, worker inputs have been intensified for safety program assessment.
