Group: end-of-life standards may cut calls for suicide aid

Article Abstract:

A coalition of health groups, led by the American Geriatrics Society, is urging policymakers to develop standards and guidelines to ensure quality end-of-life care. The coalition, which also includes the American Medical Association, has released a statement of 10 principles for measuring quality in end-of-life care. Principles include advance care planning, treatment of emotional and physical symptoms and dealing with family-related issues.

Corporate partnerships in the wake of Sunbeam

Article Abstract:

The ethics of medical groups endorsing products is being questioned. The increasing number of marketing agreements has led many critics to question the suitability of some agreements. For example, there were many concerns about the American Medical Association's agreement to allow its seal on Sunbeam home health products. As a result, medical groups are constantly assessing their dealings with industry.
