New approaches in the therapy of cardiomyopathy in muscular dystrophy

Article Abstract:

Studies reveal that cardiomyopathy is a frequent occurrence in muscular dystrophy, and heart disease in muscular dystrophy can lead to both morbidity and mortality. Therapy particularly targeted at duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is reviewed in context of its projected effect on cardiomyopathy associated with DMD while new therapies are being pursued to treat specifically the cardiomyopathy of DMD.

The benefits of the gastrointestinal surgery for treating patients with diabetes are discussed. The surgical therapy is found to be more effective than the behavioral therapy, as it leads to greater weight loss of the patients.
