Specialty hospital growth put on hold

Article Abstract:

Congress ordered a temporary ban on physician billing of Medicare or Medicaid for patients treated at any new specialty hospital in which the doctor has a financial interest, as part of the Medicaid reform legislation passed in November 2003. Specialty hospitals already in existence or those in development by 18th November 2003 would not be subject to the referral moratorium.

Medicaid reform is waiting on Medicare pact

Article Abstract:

Medicaid has outperformed Medicare as the largest government health program and is expected to exceed Medicare by $4 billion in 2003. The differences between the bills are being worked out in the conference committee, as the House version of Medicare reform would extend a drug benefit to patients covered by Medicaid, while the SenateEs legislation would not.
