HHS eases interpreter mandate but doctors must pay the bills

Article Abstract:

The US Dept of Health and Human Services requires physicians, who treat Medicaid and State Children's Health Insurance Program patients, ensure that all individuals eligible for such services are able to obtain them. There are factors that should be considered for potential patients that may have limited English proficiency skills but the amount that should be invested by physicians in these translation services is not well defined.

Cutting-the-fat bills target overweight kids

Article Abstract:

The state Legislature in Maine, Washington, is taking on the problem of obesity with a comprehensive package of proposals to promote exercise, and curtailing the sale of soft drinks in schools. The bill requires fast food restaurants to list nutrition information on menus and call for studies of nutrition programs.
