HIV care providers and prevention: Opportunities and challenges

Article Abstract:

HIV risk-taking behavior among HIV-infected persons is increasing and so providers may need to implement individualized approaches to assess risk behaviors and appropriate interventions to promote safer sexual practices. Some of the provider barriers that they have increasingly tight schedules and responsibilities, they don't feel comfortable discussing HIV risks with their patients and that they believe patient care is their primary concern rather than public health issues are discussed.

Individual, interpersonal, and structural correlates of effective HAART use among urban active injection drug users

Article Abstract:

Individual level, interpersonal, and structural factors associated with achieving undetectable plasma viral load (UVL) among US injection drug users (IDUs) receiving recommended highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) is examined. Results suggest the major role of social support in facilitating effective HAART use in this population and suggest that active drug might interfere with HAART use by adversely affecting social support.
