HPV and histological status of pelvic lymph node metastases in cervical cancer: a prospective study

Article Abstract:

The incidence and distribution pattern of human papillomovirus (HPV) DNA in lymph nodes are twice as high as that of histopathologically confirmed metastases. A study was conducted on tissues from 79 tumors and 365 lymph nodes obtained from women undergoing surgical treatment and was found that the presence of HPV DNA in the lymph nodes are related to certain features of primary lesion and vaginal tumor.

Epstein-Barr virus in gastric carcinomas and gastric stump carcinomas: a late event in gastric carcinogenesis

Article Abstract:

The Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) encoded RNA 1/2 (EBER1/2) transcripts were absent in preneoplastic gastric lesions but present in gastric carcinomas of the intact stomach (GCIS) and gastric stump carcinoma (GSC). This suggests that EBV infects only neoplastic gastric cells and thus is a late event in gastric carcinogenesis.

A model for determining the optimum histology of sentinel lymph nodes in breast cancer

Article Abstract:

Sentinel lymph nodes (SLNs) are the most likely sites of lymphogenic metastasis in breast cancer. SLNs are suited for studying the prognostic relevance of micrometastases by using a geometrical model where the step sections are separated by 200 or 250 micro m.
