Hepatitis C virus and eliminating post-transfusion hepatitis

Article Abstract:

The quest for an etiological source of a non-A, non-B hepatitis viral infection and its discovery and identification as hepatitis C is discussed. The risk of hepatitis C infection through transfused blood previously screened for non-A, non-B types, was traced to the hepatitis C virus, which paved the way for its near-eradication.
