HTLV-I transgenic models: an overview

Article Abstract:

Transgenic mice experiments have shown that the Tax protein produced by the human T cell leukemia virus type I (HTLV-I) can produce cancer and various muscle and joint diseases. Researchers using these mice as models of HTLV-I infection have found that mice with the tax gene develop tumors and inflammatory joint diseases. The HTLV-I tax gene thus appears to be a viral oncogene, or tumor-producing gene. These mice also develop muscle and joint diseases. However, adult T cell leukemia and HTLV-I-associated myelopathy/tropical spastic paraparesis (HAM/TSP) were never seen in these mice.

Underpad overview

Article Abstract:

A trial of six reusable underpads aimed to establish data helpful to continence product selection. The chosen products represented commonly-used design features. Sixty-nine testers used each product for one week. Product performance reports covered leakage, comfort and acceptibility. Laundry trials also established washing problems. Leakage proved to be the major problem. Ganmill Standard 221 and Roshe Products Kylie Standard proved most acceptable despite widely different characteristics.

An overview of acne vulgaris

Article Abstract:

Acne vulgaris (common acne), a chronic inflammatory condition of the pilosebaceous units, is the most common disease seen by dermatologists. Several factors seem to be involved causing this condition such as genetics, abnormal sebum production, androgenic stimulation, and obstruction of the sebaceous duct, and while mild acne can be treated with topical applications, patients with extensive facial acne, should have a 4-6 months trial of a systemic antibiotic.
