Harwood Grants program elimination follows budget austerity theme

Article Abstract:

According to the 2006 fiscal year budget unveiled by the government in February, 99 federal discretionary programs will be slashed by $8.8 billion over the previous yearEs funding levels. One of the proposed cuts includes the popular OSHA Harwood Training Grants program that has helped fund many nonprofit organizations, including the Nurses Foundation for development of bloodborne pathogens training. The budget requests of OSHA, MSHA, NHTSA and NIOSH for fiscal year 2006 are $467 million, $280.5 million, $696.4 million and $286 million, respectively.
