Health screening survey

Article Abstract:

A survey by LifeLink, corporate health specialist, commissioned by Hogg Robinson Financial Services, shows that employers and their staff benefit from staff screening. Some 98% of employees screened found screening beneficial and most would like to be screened every year. As a result of screening, employees have reduced smoking and alcohol consumption and improved their diet and increased exercise. About 20% of those screened were referred to their general practioner with health problems not formerly diagnosed.

United we stand

Article Abstract:

Tony Dubbins, General Secretary of the GPMU believes that the government should ensure that managers are more responsible for health and safety at work. John Edmonds, General Secretary, GMB and Joe Marino, General Secretary, BFAWU both feel that the government should set up a Working Environment Fund (WEF) with the aim of cutting the cost of occupational accidents and pollution. Opinions from other trade union leaders are also considered.

Hitting the roof

Article Abstract:

Roofing contractors are now being offered advice notes on roofwork safety to help prevent roofwork accidents, as around 30 workers each year die due to falls from or through roofs. HSE is running a national advertising campaign to illustrate safety precautions required.
