Hematologic effects of maternal antiretroviral therapy and transmission prophylaxis in HIV-1-exposed uninfected newborn infants

Article Abstract:

Hematologic alterations observed during the first 3 months of life in HIV-exposed uninfected infants subjected to antiretroviral medication before and after birth is investigated. The results have shown that antiretroviral transmission prophylaxis is associated with anemia and neutropenia in HIV-uninfected infants during the first 3 months of life and also that anemia is more profound in highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART)-exposed infants.

Trends in antiretroviral drug resistance and clade distribution among HIV-1-infected blood donors in Sao Paulo, Brazil

Article Abstract:

Rates of drug resistance mutations in antiretroviral-naive Sao Paulo blood donors are analyzed with recently acquired or established HIV-1 infections and characterized clade diversity in this population. The prevalence of drug-resistant mutations among new diagnosed persons in Sao Paulo city is found to be low and similar to what has been described in Europe and the United States.

Characterization of mutations in CRF01_AE virus isolates from antiretroviral treatment-naive and -experienced patients in Singapore

Article Abstract:

A study is done to determine the frequency of drug resistance mutations among antiretroviral treatment-naive and -experienced patients infected with CRF01_AE virus. The result was that the pattern of treatment-related mutations in CRF01_AE virus differed from that in subtype B virus at a number of positions determining drug resistance.
