Circulating concentrations of soluble L-selectin (CD62L) in patients with primary Sjogren's syndrome

Article Abstract:

Patients with Sjogren's syndrome who have symptoms in more than one body system have higher blood levels of a cell adhesion molecule called L-selectin. Sjogren's syndrome is an autoimmune disease that causes dry eyes and mouth as well as other symptoms.

Hepatitis C virus infection in 'primary' Sjogren's syndrome: prevalence and clinical significance in a series of 90 patients

Article Abstract:

There appear to be a significant number of patients with Sjogren's syndrome (SS) who are infected with the hepatitis C virus (HCV) and have active liver disease. Blood samples from 90 patients with SS were tested for HCV. Fourteen percent of these patients were infected with HCV. Liver tissue tests on five infected patients revealed evidence of liver disease in all samples. Only 8% of uninfected patients showed signs of liver disease.

Hepatitis G virus infection in primary Sjogren's syndrome: analysis in a series of 100 patients

Article Abstract:

Hepatitis G virus (HGV) infection appears to be uncommon in patients with primary Sjogren's syndrome, and not likely the cause of liver injury which may be seen in this syndrome. Sjogren's syndrome is an autoimmune condition characterized by dry eyes and a dry mouth, and other symptoms. Researchers in Spain tested 100 Sjogren's patients and 200 healthy volunteers for evidence of HGV. Only 4% of Sjogren's patients and 3% of healthy volunteers tested positive for HGV. Infection with hepatitis C virus, however, was much more common in patients with Sjogren's syndrome.
