Highly abnormal maternal inhibin and beta-human chorionic gonadotropin levels along with severe HELLP (hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, and low platelet count) syndrome at 17 weeks' gestation with triploidy

Article Abstract:

Researchers report the case of a 20-year-old women in her second trimester of pregnancy who developed the HELLP syndrome, a serious complication. Her blood levels of human chorionic gonadotropin and inhibin were the highest levels ever recorded in the HELLP syndrome. It is also unusual for this syndrome to occur in the second trimester. The fetus was aborted and had three copies of the sex chromosomes and multiple anatomic abnormalities.

Prenatal diagnosis by DNA polymorphism analysis of complete mole with coexisting twin

Article Abstract:

DNA analysis can be used to distinguish a partial from a total hydatid mole in pregnant women. A hydatid mole is a precancerous clump of cells that forms inside the uterus and is derived from the fetal membranes. A total hydatid mole is much more likely to become cancerous than a partial mole and an ultrasound scan cannot always distinguish between the two types.
