Hepatitis C virus seropositivity in organ donors and survival in heart transplant recipients

Article Abstract:

Studies were conducted to examine the effect of donor hepatitis C virus (HCV) positivity on survival in cardiac transplantation and to determine the effects of recipient age and HCV status on this association. It was found that receipt of an HCV-positive donor heart was associated with decreased survival and this association was independent of the recipient's HCV status and age.
