Article Abstract:

A district nurse describes the care and treatment of a leg wound in a patient's home. After referral by a general practitioner she assessed the wound and devised a treatment care plan with the patient's cooperation. Care involved primary, secondary and tertiary interventions that encompassed general health and psychological well-being as well as wound management. The patient's progress was complicated by the emergency admission of her husband to hospital. However, the care plan was modified to ensure the patient was informed of progress.

A way with words

Article Abstract:

A nurse questioned whether comfort she offered a dying patient and his wife was appropriate. A multiple schlerosis patient had been admitted to hospital suffering a chest infection. His wife visited daily but was absent at the time of his death. However, she gained comfort from knowing the nurse had been in attendance. The nurse was also able to offer support to the bereaved.
