How did we get into this mess? How do we get out of it?

Article Abstract:

The rapidly rising cost of health care is one of the major factors contributing to the health care crisis in the US. Costs have continued to rise largely due to the consumer price insensitivity that has arisen from a system in which insurance pays for most consumers' health costs. Thus, health care costs have risen beyond the norm of supply and demand. Global competition is one means of correcting inflated health care costs. Shifting some of the cost burden to individuals and families is another means of improving quality and holding down costs.
