Ex vivo expansion of human hematopoietic stem cells by direct delivery of the HOXB4 homeoprotein

Research dedemonstrates that human long-term culture-initiating cells and nonobese diabetic-severe combined immunodeficiency mouse repopulating cells are expanded greater than 20- and 2.5-fold, respectively, when cultured on stromal cells genetically programmed to secrete HOXB4 homeoprotein.
