Is tissue plasminogen activator a threat to neurons?

Article Abstract:

Research presented concerns the use of tissue plasminogen activator (tPA), a blood clot-dissolving drug that treats victims of occlusive stroke. Physiological research suggests that tPA may adversely affect neurons by inducing neurodegeneration.

Sporadic ALS: Blame it on the editor

Article Abstract:

Evidence had proved that abnormal mRNA encoding a glutamate receptor subunit might promote sporadic amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). This abnormal RNA editing cannot explain all motor neuron loss in ALS.

Hypothalamic huntingtin-associated protein 1 as a mediator of feeding behavior

Article Abstract:

A study reports that fasting upregulates the expression of huntingtin-associated protein 1(Hap 1) in the rodent hypothalamus, whereas intracerebroventricular administration of insulin downregulates Hap 1 by increasing its degradation through ubiquitination. Findings provide evidence-linking hypothalamic Hap 1 to the neurotransmitter gamma aminobutyric acid in the stimulation of feeding and suggest that this mechanism is involved in the feeding-inhibitory actions of insulin in the brain.
