Identification of tendon stem/progenitor cells and the role of the extracellular matrix in their niche

Article Abstract:

Two critical components of the tendon stem cell niche, biglycan (Bgn) and fibromodulin (Fmod) were identified by using genetically engineered mice. They affect the tendon stem/progenitor cells (TSPCs) by modulating bone morphogenic protein (BMP) activity and could help future strategies to treat tendon diseases.
