Immunity in natural history

Article Abstract:

Immunity in natural history refers to safeguarding and preserving the inherent values and identities of individual life forms and particular selves. Viewed from the perspective of the immune system, organisms are construed not so much as ideographic selves as self-valuing entities intent on conserving a biological identity. Immunity of the valued self is thus viewed in terms of a transmitted genetic heritage and a shared life pattern that transcends ideographic separatism.

Toward a resolution of the neutralist-selectionist controversy

Article Abstract:

Research conducted on population time arenas utilizing the neutralist approach is evaluated. Advocates of this theoretical approach suggest that the behavior of certain factors are considered neutral if they are perceived as such. Research was conducted to determine the time arenas of a subject population classified as physically fit. Results indicate that the improper correlation of factors of fitness in the subject population can create overall negative correlations.

The immune self: a selectionist theory of recognition, learning, and remembering within the immune system

Article Abstract:

The goals of both the nervous and immune systems has always been to respond to environmental information and they have evolved similar strategies of memory, recognition and learning to do so. It will be interesting to see if the immune system develops more efficient ways of processing information as the environment grows more complex. Neuroimmunologic research offers exciting possibilities in the future.
