In praise of appraisal

Article Abstract:

Effective staff appraisal depends on preparation, the way the interview is conducted and negociated outcomes. A list of questions may help evaluate job and performance. The appraisal interview should be in counselling style and take place in a comfortable, confidential environment. Performance discussion should identify examples of particular behaviour. However, managers should recognise the influence of exernal factors. Managers and employees should contribute to an appropriate action plan.

The hard sell

Article Abstract:

A well-written Curriculum Vitae (CV) should be aimed at making the biggest impact in the shortest possible time. It must be remembered that the CV is the one chance an applicant has of catching the interviewer's interest. There is no single correct way to write a CV, but in general, it must be presented to arouse interest and show the applicant's achievements in the best possible way. Suggestions for writing a CV are presented.
