In the line of fire

Article Abstract:

Working as a volunteer for non-governmental organizations has become risker as evidenced by the murder of five nurses working for the International Committee of the Red Cross in Chechyna and the kidnapping of midwife Sara Nam in Liberia. in a hospital in Liberia. In today's war, 90% of the casualties are civilian, not military as in the past. Organizations, such as Medicins Sans Frontieres, put their volunteers through a training program and stress safety and a high level of professionalism and commitment.

Could do better: Nursing students are failing exams an dropping out of courses in droves due to financial hardship and lack of support from their colleges

Article Abstract:

Many nursing students and professional organizations believe that the quality and effectiveness of training is lacking, with students particularly under pressure due to financial hardship and lack of academic support. It is hoped that the UKCC's continuing education review focusing on competence as opposed to qualification will help the situation, and it is predicted there will be a return to hospital-based learning for some nurses.
