The history of the Cochrane Collaboration is reviewed. The Cochrane Collaboration evaluates treatments based on the scientific evidence for their effectiveness and publishes this information on CD-ROM and on the World Wide Web. It is named after Archibald L. Cochrane, a British epidemiologist who pioneered the practice of evidence-based medicine.

The Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials (CONSORT) will be updated in 2001 and will be available on the Internet. First published in 1995, the document contains guidelines for writing reports of clinical trials.
