Increased CD36 expression on circulating monocytes during HIV infection

Article Abstract:

The study aims to define the level of CD36 expression on circulating monocytes from HIV-1-infected patients and healthy controls (HCs) and to correlate CD36 expression levels with metabolic and immunocirologic parameters. It is concluded that HIV-1 infection is associated with increased expressions of CD36 on circulating monocytes, and antiretroviral drugs play only a minor role in the complex homeostasis of this receptor.

Self-reported adherence to antiretroviral therapy for HIV1-infection and virologic treatment response: A meta-analysis

Article Abstract:

Investigation on whether variability between studies about the effect of self-reported adherence on virologic treatment response could be attributed to study design features is conducted. It is observed that self-reported adherence measures could distinguish between clinically meaningful patterns of medication-taking behavior.

HIV antiretroviral treatment: Early versus later

Article Abstract:

A modeling approach is used to compare starting HAART at a mean CD4(super +) T-cell count greater than 350 cells/mu L (early) versus less than 350 cells /mu L but more than 200 cells/mu L (later). Results reveal that early therapy is more cost-effective when the impact of HAART on well-being is smaller.
