Influenza and the rates of hospitalization for respiratory disease among infants and young children

Article Abstract:

Very young children may be seriously affected by influenza and may benefit from influenza vaccine. In a study of children covered by two HMOs, the rate of hospitalization among healthy young children was 12 times higher than the rate in older children when influenza viruses were circulating. This means that many respiratory diseases in very young children are caused by influenza virus rather than respiratory syncytial virus.

Safety of trivalent inactivated influenza vaccine in children 6 to 23 months old

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to screen for medically attended events in the clinic, emergency department or hospital after administration of trivalent inactivated influenza vaccine in children 6 to 23 months old. It is found that in the largest population-based study to date of the safety of trivalent inactivated influenza vaccine in young children, there were very few medically attended events, none of which were serious, significantly associated with the vaccine.

Early thimerosal exposure and neuropsychological outcomes at 7 to 10 years

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to assess the association between mercury from thimerosal-containing vaccines and immune globulins and neuropsychological functioning deficiency. The evidence does not support a causal association due early exposure to mercury at the age of 7 to 10 years.
