Injection of recombinant human type VII collagen restores collagen function in dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa

Article Abstract:

The feasibility of protein-based therapy by intradermally injecting human recombinant type VII collagen into mouse skin and a dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (DEB) human skin equivalent transplanted onto mice is evaluated. The results reveal that the injected collagen localized to the basement membrane zone of both types of tissue and reversed the features of DEB disease in the DEB skin equivalent.

Dynamic imaging of collagen and its modulation in tumors in vivo using second-harmonic generation

Article Abstract:

The accessibility of molecular therapeutics in tumors can be assessed by using simple histological staining of tumor tissue biopsies for collagen. It is shown that it is possible to optically image fibrillar collagen in tumors growing in mice using second harmonic generation (SHG).

TLR4 enhances TGF-beta signaling and hepatic fibrosis

Article Abstract:

The significance of the Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) in facilitating hepatic fibrogenesis is discussed. It is shown that TLR4 enhances hepatic fibrosis by downregulating the transforming growth factor (TGF)-beta pseudoreceptor to support TGF-beta mediated collagen production.
