Insurance coverage, medical care use, and short-term health changes following an unintentional injury or the onset of a chronic condition

Article Abstract:

A multivariate longitudinal regression analysis is used to compare the medical care use and short-term health change among the U.S. uninsured individuals and insured nonelderly individuals following a health shock caused by either an unintentional injury or the onset of a chronic condition. The results have shown that the uninsured individuals reported receiving less medical care and poorer short-term changes in health than those with insurance.

Trends in opioid prescribing by race/ethnicity for patients seeking care in US emergency departments

Article Abstract:

A study examined the frequency of prescribing opioid based drugs in the emergency department to alleviate pain among non-Hispanic whites and racial/ethnic groups specifically by differential prescribing. Results revealed that prescribing of opioid based drugs had not dropped and no concrete evidence was found to support the assumption that racial/ethnic groups were treated differently.
