Interaction between physical structure and amylose: amylopectin ratio of foods on postprandial glucose and insulin responses in healthy subjects

Article Abstract:

Diet-related disorders such as obesity, hyperlipidemia and hypertension can be prevented or treated by reducing postprandial glucose and insulin concentrations in the blood. Studies show the influence of amylose in starch and the fat content of meals on postprandial glucose and insulin responses. However, further research has failed to duplicate earlier test results that show the impact of the amylopectin ratio on postprandial glucose and insulin responses.

Resting metabolic rate and postprandial thermogenesis by level of aerobic fitness in young women

Article Abstract:

Twenty-three euthyroid, eumenorrheic women, between the ages of 18-35 years, were studied to assess the resting metabolic rate (RMR) and the thermic effect of a meal (TEM). The RMR proportion was higher in highly fit women in contrast to women with average fitness and unhealthy women. Highly fit women showed a higher thermic response to a meal challenge. The aerobic fitness in women was related to the metabolic rate during the resting part of the day.
