Medicare reform could drive doctors away

Article Abstract:

The example of the Plano, Texas healthcare sector indicates that the reform of the Medicare system may have the unintended consequence of discouraging physicians from treating Medicare recipients. Of the 50 physicians in Plano, very few will treat Medicare recipients. Some Congressional Democrats contend that cuts in Medicare proposed by the Republicans would restrict Medicare access, force recipients into managed care plans, or discourage aged people from seeking medical treatment.
